Overview
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 (ref. 124300) is the largest expression of the brand's entry-level sport line, presenting the Oyster case in its most distilled, complication-free form. Introduced in 2020, it pairs the modern 41 mm Oystersteel case with the in-house Calibre 3230, Rolex's then-new generation of movement featuring the Chronergy escapement and a 70-hour power reserve. Its rotating cast of bold dial colours has made it one of the most discussed Oyster Perpetual references of the modern era.
History
The Oyster Perpetual line traces its roots to the earliest waterproof Oyster cases of the late 1920s, and the no-date, no-complication format has remained a constant thread through Rolex's catalogue ever since. The 124300 arrived in 2020 as part of a broader refresh of the Oyster Perpetual family, replacing the prior 41 mm reference and bringing with it the upgraded Calibre 3230. At launch, Rolex introduced an unusually vivid palette — including a turquoise-blue, a bright yellow, and a coral red dial — that generated significant collector attention and, for a period, considerable secondary-market interest. Several of those statement colours were subsequently discontinued, cementing their status as short-lived variants within the reference's run.
Notable points
- Calibre 3230 features the Chronergy escapement, a paramagnetic lever and escape wheel that improve efficiency, paired with a Parachrom hairspring and a 70-hour power reserve.
- The 41 mm Oystersteel case carries Rolex's 100-metre water resistance rating and the screw-down Twinlock crown standard to the Oyster Perpetual line.
- Dial colours have included black, silver, green, and blue as enduring options, while turquoise, yellow, and coral red were offered briefly before being discontinued.
- As the largest Oyster Perpetual reference and the only one without a date or additional complication, the 124300 occupies a distinct position as a purist's daily-wear Rolex.
- The short production window of the vivid discontinued dials has made those variants particularly sought after among modern Rolex collectors.
