The Rolex GMT-Master reference 16750 occupied the line throughout the 1980s, serving as the direct successor to the ref. 16750's predecessor and laying the groundwork for the celebrated ref. 16760 and later 16710. History
Introduced in 1981, the ref. 16750 replaced the long-running ref. 1675 and brought with it the calibre 3075, a movement equipped with a quickset date mechanism — a meaningful practical upgrade over its predecessor. Production continued until approximately 1988, when the reference was succeeded by the ref. 16760 and, subsequently, the ref. 16710. During its production run, dials transitioned from the matte black surfaces characteristic of earlier GMT-Masters toward glossier lacquered finishes, making dial variation a key point of interest for collectors today.
