Datograph Up/Down

The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Up/Down reference 405.035 presents one of the most technically accomplished flyback chronographs in contemporary watchmaking within a 41 mm case of 950 platinum. Its black dial brings together three of Lange's most celebrated complications — the outsize date, a flyback chronograph, and a power-reserve indicator — in a composition that has become a benchmark of German haute horlogerie. Calibre L951.6, developed and finished entirely in Glashütte, drives the piece with the precision and hand-finishing expected of the manufacture.

The Datograph was first introduced in 1999 and quickly established itself as a defining achievement for the revived A. Lange & Söhne, demonstrating that the Saxon manufacture could rival — and in many respects surpass — the finest Swiss chronograph traditions. The Up/Down variant, adding a power-reserve display to the original Datograph's architecture, extended the complication set while preserving the dial's legibility. Reference 405.035, in 950 platinum with a black dial, entered the collection in 2012 and has remained a cornerstone of the Saxonia line, prized by collectors for the rarity of its case material and the drama of its dark dial against the cool lustre of platinum.
