Overview
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding reference 15400ST is a 41 mm stainless steel expression of Gerald Genta's iconic octagonal integrated-bracelet design. Produced from 2012 to 2019, it served as the principal self-winding Royal Oak for much of the decade before being succeeded by the 15500ST. The reference was offered in blue, black, and silver Grande Tapisserie dials, each paired with a matching applied hour markers and polished-and-brushed case finishing.
History
The 15400ST succeeded the long-running 15300ST as Audemars Piguet's flagship 41 mm self-winding Royal Oak, entering production in 2012. It carried the in-house Calibre 3120, a movement that had already earned a strong reputation in the Royal Oak family for its reliability and finishing quality. Throughout its production run the reference became a cornerstone of the modern Royal Oak collector canon, appreciated for its balanced proportions and the restrained palette of dial options. When Audemars Piguet introduced the 15500ST in 2019 with the new Calibre 4302, the 15400ST was retired, cementing its status as a transitional yet highly regarded chapter in the line's history.
Notable points
- 41 mm stainless steel case with the Royal Oak's signature alternating polished and brushed surfaces across eight bezel sides.
- Powered by Calibre 3120, an in-house automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve and a rotor visible through the sapphire caseback.
- Grande Tapisserie dial — a fine hobnail pattern unique to the Royal Oak — available in blue, black, and silver variants.
- Produced from 2012 to 2019, bridging the earlier 15300ST era and the current-generation 15500ST.
- The integrated bracelet, a defining feature since the original 1972 Royal Oak, is rendered here in polished and brushed stainless steel with AP's characteristic folding clasp.
